After a long time, the latest version of Debian detected the USB modem in my LG G1600 phone. Querying is success, but I haven’t yet tried connecting net. I am always misfortunate, because by the time my system recognized the USB modem, Airtel, the service provider which I use for the GPRS connection has reduced the validity of RS 274 GPRS recharge from 30 days to 15. Now, I should try with Idea, which provide GPRS at the rate of RS 9 per day.
I was also successful in configuring the permissions of the fat32 file systems accessible through Linux. Now, I could give write permissions to individual users by editing the “etc/fstab” file. This is much needed for me as by brothers are also using my computer and I don’t want them to accidently delete any files in the fat32 partitions.
The exams till now, was somewhat easier compared to the first exam, M1. Four exams are over by now and there are five more left.No Comments | Read More...
Here in Kerala, Airtel has introduced recharge coupons of RS 2.00 with the caption “Randil oru Gundu”. It is somewhat like trying luck. Every coupon will carry a gift, starting from a single AirTel to AirTel call to even 1 year validity. Due to the amazement, I bought 5 coupons. In total, I got 6 days extra validity, 1 minute any Local mobile call, 2 minutes AirTel to AirTel and 1 SMS. Its not so bad for RS 10, I think.3 Comments | Read More...
Today, after two months, the AirTel GPRS got disconnected. As it was time of exams, I didn’t take recharging seriously. Another fact is that I didn’t have the money to pay for it. Anyway, after two months of unlimited Internet usage, I am going to have a few days of no Internet. Hope I could get it recharged for GPRS before 20th so that I could use net during the Christmas holidays. No Comments | Read More...
My quest for a cheap mobile handset with GPRS and computer connectivity came to an end today. Anil, a friend of mine studying for CSE 2nd year at MESCE itself, arranged me a LG G1600 handset with data cable for RS 2000. The set has Java support too. I recharged the SIM with GPRS recharge card but, I came to know that GPRS will be active only on Monday as it will take about 24 hours to activate and Sunday is an holiday for AirTel offices. Also, my balance is only RS 10 and for connecting GPRS a minimum balance of RS 15 is needed.
There was a little problem while I tried to connect the mobile to computer. I solved most of it by downloading a software for LG mobiles from net. Still, data from mobile cannot be transferred to computer. But I am satisfied with what I have got.
